Lapaz, a friend of Diego’s when they were in school together in Spain, comes home after graduating, and his father holds a party in his honor. During the party someone tries to murder Lapaz’s father, who remains in a coma for several days. Garçia is also injured. Nevertheless, he is accused of being the guilty party. Subsequently, Lapaz is accused of attempted murder, and sentenced to death. Diego does not believe the young man is guilty, and so discovers the truth: that two dishonest men have staged the whole thing to extort money from Lapaz’s father.
